Greater Cincinnati Smart Kitchen Initiative

The Smart Kitchen Initiative is a partnership between Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District and Green Umbrella. The initiative offers assistance to reduce pre-consumer food waste at mid- to high-volume food service operators in Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn and Franklin counties in Indiana. 

Participating kitchens will receive funds for up to 50% of food waste tracking technology costs and free training to help save on food purchases and improve operation efficiency.

Who Can Participate?

High-volume institutional kitchens with annual food purchases of $300,000 or more, including: 
• Educational institutions
• Hospitals/Health Care facilities
• Entertainment facilities

How the Program Works

Participating kitchens will receive funds for up to 50% of the cost for food waste tracking software for one year, with the possibility of a second year of partial funding. Participants will also receive free technical support from experts at Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District and Green Umbrella.
