How Much Your Community Recycles

Residential Recycling in Hamilton County Communities

Forty-eight different political jurisdictions fall within the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District and almost all provide some form of recycling program for their residents. The three most common recycling programs are:

  • Contracted Recycling Service: Some communities, like the City of Cincinnati, use tax dollars to operate a recycling program or contract out recycling services and charge little or no direct fee to their residents for curbside recycling collection.
  • Subscription Recycling Service: Some communities, like Anderson Township, allow residents to choose recycling services and individually subscribe with their waste hauler for curbside recycling collection.
  • Recycling Drop-Off Locations: Approximately 2/3 of Hamilton County communities offer recycling locations where residents can drop off recyclables at no cost. Many communities offer drop offs in addition to a curbside recycling program.

Communities with contracted services tend to have higher recycling rates than those with subscription service. The recycling rate is calculated as follows:

Recycling Rate =     Tons of Recyclables/Tons of Waste + Tons of Recyclables

The table below lists the most current recycling rate numbers for Hamilton County Communities. Recycling rates do not include yardwaste.
